Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns can be made to strengthen and rebuild a tooth that has chipped or is weakened. Crowns can be made from porcelain or metal, which are custom-made and fitted over the tooth. We recommend crowns when a large proportion (more than 50%) of the tooth has been lost. In some cases, we may also recommend a partial crown.

Dental bridges replace one or more missing teeth, which consists of an artificial tooth held in by the neighbouring natural teeth. Bridges can be made from porcelain or metal, which are custom-made and fitted over the neighbouring teeth.

Do I need a dental crown?

Our dentists at SIA Dental will first perform a thorough dental checkup at your initial visit. Based on their findings through their examination and X-rays, they will provide you with a list of options for your dental condition and make treatment recommendations. It is important to consider all possible options before deciding if a dental crown is the most suitable option.

What does the dental crown procedure involve?

Placing a dental crown requires 2 visits. The tooth that requires the crown is first shaped precisely to specific dimensions. A mould of your teeth is then taken, which gets sent to a local laboratory where the crown is fabricated. Our dentists or dental ceramist will obtain a shade match to ensure the shade of the new crown matches your natural teeth. While the crown is being made, our dentists will place a temporary crown.

At the second visit, the temporary crown is removed and the final crown is cemented on. You will also have the opportunity to check the shape and shade of the crown before it is cemented in permanently.

The following are cases of full and partial crowns done at SIA Dental Essendon:

What does the dental bridge procedure involve?

Placing a dental bridge requires 2 visits. The teeth next to the missing tooth are first shaped precisely to specific dimensions. These teeth will be fitted with crowns, which serve as anchors for the missing tooth. A mould of your teeth is then taken, which is sent to a local laboratory where the bridge is fabricated. Our dentists or dental ceramist will obtain a shade match to ensure the shade of the new bridge matches your natural teeth. While the bridge is being made, our dentists will place a temporary bridge/crowns.

At the second visit, the temporary bridge/crowns are removed and the final bridge is cemented on in a single piece. You will also have the opportunity to check the shape and shade of the bridge before it is cemented in permanently.

The following are cases of dental bridges done at SIA Dental Essendon:

The upper right lateral incisor
was lost due to trauma
The upper right lateral incisor was then successfully replaced with a partial Maryland bridge, which was anchored to the neighbouring canine.
The upper left central incisor was
malpositioned due to severe gum disease
The upper left central incisor was then successfully replaced with a conventional 3-piece bridge, which was anchored to the neighbouring teeth
